Youth Advocates for Pork (YAP)

Educating. Empowering. Elevating the Future of the Pork Industry.

The Youth Advocates for Pork (YAP) Kentucky is a unique educational and leadership opportunity for young people who are passionate about the swine industry. Open to youth ages 16–21, this program bridges the gap between show pig enthusiasts and commercial pork production, offering a well-rounded look at the industry from the boardroom to the barn.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ages 16 to 21 as of January 1 of the program year

  • Must reside in Kentucky

  • Demonstrate a passion for the pork industry (e.g., 4-H/FFA involvement, family farm, career goals)

  • Must be available for upcoming group event, July 10 & 11

  • Submit by deadline: June 6th, 2025

Participants will engage in discussions on: 

  • The National Pork Board (NPB) and National Pork Producers Council (NPPC)

  • The Pork Checkoff and how it's used to fund research, promotion, and education

  • Team Pork, a youth-focused initiative promoting biosecurity awareness and outreach

  • How to successfully run a Show Pig operation

Program Components πŸ· Large-Scale Swine Facility Experience

Get an up-close look at commercial pork production by touring and learning from a modern, large-scale swine facility. Participants will gain valuable insight into biosecurity, animal care, and farm management practices used in today’s industry.

🎑 Kentucky State Fair Involvement (Optional)

Assist with educational and promotional efforts at the Kentucky Pork Producers booth during the State Fair. Learn how to advocate for agriculture, answer consumer questions, and promote pork to the public.
