P.O.R.K. Class

Promoting. Opportunities. Revitalizing. Knowledge.

The purpose of the P.O.R.K. Class is to identify and cultivate motivated pork producers and industry supporters, ages 21 and older, who are actively involved in pork production or a related field. This program is designed to equip participants with the essential leadership skills, industry knowledge, and professional development tools necessary to become more effective advocates and leaders. Through intentional training and engagement, the P.O.R.K. Class fosters both personal growth and professional advancement, preparing participants to serve and strengthen the pork industry at every level.

PROGRAM CONTENT

Participants will engage in a dynamic blend of formal instruction, interactive discussion, and hands-on application designed to strengthen both personal and professional leadership capacity. Throughout the program, participants will develop practical leadership skills, expand their understanding of emerging agricultural technologies, and gain insight into the legislative and regulatory processes that impact pork producers and agricultural commodities.

The curriculum also provides in-depth exposure to modern pork production practices, current industry challenges, and emerging opportunities, equipping participants with the knowledge and confidence to effectively advocate for the pork industry. By the conclusion of the program, participants will not only have sharpened their leadership abilities but will be prepared to serve as informed, proactive ambassadors for pork production at the local, state, and national levels.

Being a part of the P.O.R.K class provided me with opportunities that I might have never gotten. I didn’t grow up in the commercial swine industry but rather the show sector. It exposed me to the other side, taught me so much, and allowed me to take experiences and new knowledge back to my classroom. I was able to also see how things work from different jobs within the industry to from labor to government. I was able to meet incredible individuals who have a passion for this industry and for serving people. Being a part of this program made 2024 one of the best years!” - Jenna Thompson
